1. Acceptance

By using carn.life, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

These terms apply to all users: memorial owners, memory contributors, funeral home accounts, and anyone who visits the platform.

2. Service description

Carn is an online memorial platform that allows users to create and share digital memorials, gather written memories, photos, and videos, and export that content in various formats.

The service is operated by Vindico Labs, Scotland, United Kingdom.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, with reasonable notice where possible. We will not discontinue the service without giving you the opportunity to export your data.

3. User accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. Carn uses Google OAuth for authentication — we do not hold passwords. Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Carn to:

• — Post content that is deliberately cruel, targeted at harming a grieving family, or constitutes harassment
• — Post content that is illegal under UK law, including but not limited to defamation, incitement to hatred, or child sexual abuse material
• — Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or memorials
• — Use the platform to spam, advertise, or promote commercial services
• — Scrape, crawl, or extract data from the platform through automated means without our permission
• — Impersonate another person or entity

We understand that grief produces raw language and strong emotion. We do not prohibit this. Our moderation is aimed at genuine harm, not discomfort.

5. Content & moderation

All memories submitted to a memorial go through automated AI moderation before going live. The memorial owner can also review and approve or reject memories manually.

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms, without notice. In serious cases, we may suspend or terminate the account associated with the content.

Memorial owners are responsible for the content published on memorials they control. If you believe content on a memorial violates these terms or causes harm, contact us at [email protected].

6. Intellectual property

You own your content. All memories, photographs, and videos you submit to Carn remain your intellectual property (or the property of whoever owns them). You grant us a limited licence to store, display, and process that content in order to provide the service.

That licence ends when you delete the content or close your account. We will not use your content for advertising, promotional materials, or AI model training outside of the automated moderation process.

The Carn platform, software, brand, and design are owned by Vindico Labs and protected by copyright. You may not reproduce or redistribute them without our permission.

7. Payment terms

Paid plans are available as either one-time payments (Individual plan) or recurring subscriptions (Funeral Home plan). All prices are displayed in pounds sterling and include applicable VAT.

Payments are processed by Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorise us to charge the applicable fees.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account dashboard.

8. Cancellation & refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You retain access to paid features until that date.

The Individual plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Contact us at [email protected] within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.

Funeral Home monthly subscriptions are not refundable for the current period, but you may cancel at any time to prevent future charges.

9. Data retention principle

Memorial data is never deleted when a subscription lapses.

If a paid subscription is cancelled or lapses, the memorial reverts to the free tier. Paid features (such as removed Carn branding, video uploads, or CSV export) become unavailable. But every memory, photograph, and contribution remains intact and accessible.

This is a principle, not a clause with exceptions. We will never use subscription status as leverage to retain data. If you want to permanently delete a memorial, you can do so from your dashboard — but we will never do it on your behalf without your explicit instruction.

10. Limitation of liability

Carn is provided "as is". We make no warranties, express or implied, about the availability, reliability, or suitability of the service for any particular purpose.

To the maximum extent permitted by UK law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Carn, including loss of data, loss of revenue, or emotional distress.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of Carn shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Changes to terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (if you have an account) and update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.

Continued use of Carn after the effective date of updated terms constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland and the United Kingdom. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
