The Memory Book

Something you can hold

Every memory left on the memorial, every photograph, every small story someone remembered at two in the morning, printed and bound into one book.

It sits on a shelf. It gets taken down at Christmas. It outlasts the phone it was written on.

An open memory book on a table beside flowers and a small cairn of stones

Websites are borrowed. A book is yours.

The memorial will be there for as long as you want it. But a book asks nothing of anybody: no password, no signal, no account, no charger. You hand it to your mother and she can read it in her chair.

The people who wrote those memories will mostly never see them printed. That is the quiet pleasure of it. Someone your father worked with in 1974 wrote three sentences about him on their phone, and now those sentences are set in type, on paper, in a book with his name on the spine.

Another stone, placed by another hand.

What's inside

  • ✓ Their name in gold on a cream linen cover, with their dates beneath it.
  • ✓ Every memory you choose, printed with the name of the person who left it and their relationship to them.
  • ✓ The photographs people shared, printed full page, at the size they deserve.
  • ✓ An opening dedication in your own words, and their biography from the memorial.
  • ✓ A closing page of names: everyone who placed a stone or left a memory.

Hardcover, A5, layflat binding so photographs are never lost in the fold. Typically 40 to 120 pages, depending on how much people wrote.

Three steps, about ten minutes

The memorial has already done the hard part. The book is mostly a matter of saying yes.

Choose what goes in

Every approved memory is included by default. Untick anything you'd rather keep off the page, reorder them, and pick the photographs you want printed large.

2

We lay it out

No templates to pick, no fonts to choose. We set the book in the same type as the memorial and show you every page before you pay.

The gift nobody knows how to give

In the year after a death there is a birthday, a Christmas, an anniversary, and no idea what to do about any of them. Flowers wilt. Cards are read once.

A book of everything people remembered about them is the rare thing that gets better with time. Grandchildren who were too young to remember him will read it as adults and hear his colleagues describing him at work.

Order three and give two away. It is usually the right number.

Questions people ask

Can I order one later, when more memories have come in?

Yes, and most families do. Memories arrive for months, often years. Order whenever it feels finished, or order twice: one book now, a fuller one on the anniversary.

What if someone wrote something we don't want printed?

Leave it out. You see every memory before the book is made and untick anything you'd rather not include. Nothing is removed from the memorial itself.

Do the photographs print well?

Most do. Phone photographs are more than sharp enough at A5. If one is too small to print cleanly we'll tell you before you order rather than after it arrives.

Can we add memories that were never on the memorial?

Add them to the memorial first, from the gallery page, and they'll appear in the book. Anything in the memorial can go in the book.

We're a funeral home. Can we order these for families?

Yes. Order on a family's behalf from your dashboard, or set your own price and offer it as part of your service. More for funeral homes.
