No. Carn works entirely in the browser. Anyone with the link — on any phone, tablet, or computer — can read the memorial and add a memory. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
Every memory is reviewed before it goes live. The AI is tuned to understand grief — it knows that raw language and strong emotion are normal and appropriate. It allows that. What it catches is cruelty: targeted attacks, trolling, or content that would cause genuine harm to a grieving family.
If something is flagged, the memorial owner reviews it before it's published. You stay in control.
Yes. Memorials are not indexed by search engines — they're never public in the sense that a stranger could stumble across them. Password protection is available if you want to limit access to people you personally share the link with.
Memories are never deleted. This is not negotiable. If a paid subscription lapses, the memorial reverts to the free tier — Carn branding reappears, some features are restricted. But the memories themselves are permanent. We will never hold someone's grief to ransom.
Yes. PDF export is free on all plans — download every memory as a formatted document, photos included. If you want something you can hold, we also offer printed hardcover memory books, delivered to your door. The printed book is available as an upgrade.
